Are you a revealer or a concealer? The revealer is someone who uncovers a secret, not theirs to tell, and blasts it to their network and beyond. The concealer, on the other hand, is a great confidant who values privacy and is not content to pass along secrets. At any point and time, we may have to make the decision to reveal or conceal. Let me share with you some thoughts on both.
The Revealer The revealer is like a conduit used for passing along all types of personal details about others. Those in that circle consume those details and gain an addicting sense of importance and connection. Revealers do not value the privacy of others and may never stop to consider the havoc they proliferate. “Well, it’s the truth”, they reason. In actuality, they ignite a community of little fire builders that will eventually burn itself out.
The Concealer The concealer is human and fallible but places great value on authenticity. Like the revealer, they see things and hear things too but resist the need to use someone’s misfortune to inflate their own sense of worth. Their circle of confidants will grow slowly and steadily. In time, the concealer reaps the fruits of being a faithful friend. The Lord is a concealer. We know he sees us. But when we come to him acknowledging our faults, he will forgive and forget. And equally important, he will supply our need for community, love and acceptance. He is trustworthy and will keep our private matters out of the spotlight. We can put our confidence in him because he is a faithful friend.
