5 Ways to Become a More Faithful Christian By Evelyn Tinsley
Are you living a turn-style type of religious reality? First, you’re on and showing up every Sunday for worship. Then, before you know it, you’ve missed a few services. And, in no time at all, you are off track again and pushing the snooze button on Sundays. What happened? When you want to stay, why do you keep falling away?
God is faithful. Unfortunately, we are not always so faithful to Him. We are free to do what we want and there is very little or no social pressure to make Sunday worship a priority. In fact, I would say there is growing pressure to stay away from church and any associated complications of dealing with “church folk”. Given these challenges, it should not be a surprise to anyone when regular church attendance is a challenge.
Whatever you do, don’t ever give up on your desire to grow closer to God. Instead, ignite your determination and deepen your resolve. And know this. There is a spiritual war raging and unseen around us. So, we fight in our War Room. In fact, I’m praying for you at this very moment. Praying your heart will be open to a life devoted to the Lord. We have a spiritual advocate in Jesus. He is able to provide all that is needed to grow our faithfulness. With that in mind, there are some things you can do to express your own faithfulness to the Lord. I have provided you with a list that includes 5 things you can do to shut down the turn-style and become firmly rooted in truth.
1.Welcome the Lord into your home: Welcoming the Lord means physically setting up a location or several locations in your home where you can study and pray on a regular basis. Have a Bible, pen, paper, or pillow nearby. Take notes, or keep a prayer journal. Small steps can lead to bigger accomplishments. 2.Schedule Time for Your Daily Devotional: Devote yourself to regular time with God. Begin with a song of praise and worship. Jot down your prayers and then pray for yourself and others. Devote several weeks to reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). And find good online Bible study resources like The World Video Bible School (https://video.wvbs.org/) 3.Stay Focused: Now, we all know that as soon as you decide to reignite your devotion to Christ, all types of “can’t miss” events will pop up on Sundays. Miss them and stay focused. Consistency is key. 4.Be Watchful: Watch and pray that the Lord will send you people who want you to succeed in your quest to grow more faithful. Call or text them and stay in touch. Your fellowship with faithful people will encourage the same in you too. 5.Praise the Lord for every success: Some people will disapprove of your success, and assume it is a waste of your time. They may even ponder aloud why you would sacrifice so much for the sake of church. They can talk about sacrifice but only you can help them understand the blessings. Keep praising the Lord for every success! Let them know that God is faithful!! The Lord faithfully provides for our needs and wants. He is our protector and knows how to keep us from dangers seen and unseen. Even in our sinful state, His love remains unfailing. He is faithful and we can be too.
